Do I need a GP referral?
No, a GP referral is not necessary for you to have an ultrasound guided steroid/cortisone injection at Krida Clinic.
Why are ultrasound guided spinal injections not performed widely across the UK?
Steroids can cause potential harm to the surrounding soft tissues if it is not delivered appropriately. The ultrasound scan helps to identify the exact location of the inflammation or problem within the spine. Therefore, using ultrasound guidance when injecting the spine minimizes the risks of possible side effects and allows the patient to avoid any potentially harmful radiation. Likewise, the use of ultrasound guidance means that the patient can avoid theatre and have the injection in an out-patient setting. Evidence suggests that ultrasound guided spinal injections are more accurate than landmark guided/blind injections.
How long will the procedure take?
30-40 minutes
Do we accept private medical insurance?
Unfortunately, we do not accept any form of insurance. However, our prices are competitive with other private healthcare clinics and our services are unique; the patient will receive a thorough examination, diagnostic scan, and an individualized treatment plan in one visit, without the need to pay for repeat consultation appointments.
When do I need to pay?
We accept cash, card, or cheque payment on the day of the consultation.
Is there a cancellation fee?
Please cancel your appointment at least 24 hours prior to the consultation to avoid a £50.00 administration fee.
Will the injection help me?
Research shows that there is a 90% chance that the injection(s) will help to settle down any pain and inflammation that you may be experiencing. Having your injection performed under ultrasound guidance helps to improve the efficacy of your treatment. However, we cannot guarantee that ultrasound guided injection(s) will improve your symptoms. If this is the case, further tests and a different method of treatment may be necessary.
How many injections can I have?
Usually, one injection is sufficient, but if the pain is severe or consistent over a long period of time, you may require more. It is important to note that you cannot have more than 3 steroid injections per part of the body, per year.
How long before I feel the benefits of my spinal injection?
This can vary between each individual and can be affected by a number of factors, including your individual condition and lifestyle. However, it commonly takes between 48 hours and one week before you may feel the benefits of the steroid injection.
